What is Medication Management?

Medication management is a type of psychiatric treatment that includes an initial assessment, evaluation, and ongoing monitoring of your teen’s psychiatric needs. Medication is prescribed as needed by one of our licensed psychiatric providers.

Teens will attend medication appointments at least weekly. This helps them find a course of medication that supports their therapeutic and recovery goals. Our clinical team at Lotus Behavioral Health makes sure the medication your teen is on is safe, effective, and aligns with their treatment goals.

Initial and Weekly Medication Management

Medication combined with therapy significantly improves treatment outcomes. Throughout treatment, your teen will meet weekly to address underlying mental health challenges through medication management. When they first enter one of our programs, we assess the medication they are currently prescribed—adjusting prescriptions and dosages as needed.

Medication Management FAQs

Do you provide psychiatric assessments?

When your teen first arrives for residential treatment, we will conduct a substance abuse assessment and mental health evaluation. Part of this includes reviewing your teen’s psychiatric history to understand their mental health diagnosis better and medication history.

How often does my teen attend medication appointments?

They will meet weekly on where they are in recovery, to ensure medication is working effectively.

Can my teen receive medication on an outpatient basis?

No. Only teens enrolled in our residential and PHP programs receive medication management.  If you do not have an outpatient psychiatric provider we can help refer you to one.

What substance abuse disorders do you treat?

We treat alcohol, opioids, benzodiazepines, stimulants, hallucinogens, inhalants, marijuana, and more. We also treat co-occurring mental health disorders such as depression, anxiety, and trauma disorders.

Are families involved in the treatment program?

Yes! At Lotus, we believe having a strong support system and involving family throughout the treatment process can increase successful recovery rates in teens. We offer family therapy to address conflicts, form better connections, and create a recovery-supportive environment for the teen to return to.

Do you accept insurance?

Yes, we accept most major insurance providers, including Cigna, Aetna, BlueCross Blue Shield, United Healthcare, Lucet, Optum, Tricare, Humana, and Bright Healthcare. Speak with one of our admissions members to verify insurance and find the best treatment plan for your teen.
